The author of a doctoral thesis on the procedure to obtain building permits as well as numerous articles on building and planning law, Mr. Benoît Bovay has spent over twenty years practicing in this interdisciplinary field of law. Fascinated administrative procedural process, he has taught on the subject since 1996, and spatial planning as well as building public regulation since 2016, at the Faculty of Law and Criminal Sciences, University of Lausanne. Following his work for several years as a Legal Officer in the State of Vaud (Department of Justice and Law), he has developed extensive practical knowledge backed by theoretical references to provide solution driven advice to address to practical problems arising in daily public life. He represents many local and other state authorities. Acting on behalf of public authorities, private clients and specialized professional representatives (such as architects), Benoît Bovay deals with all sides of the vast and complicated field of spatial planning as well as building public regulation. He is coauthor of the Annotated Code, a book of reference entitled Planning and Construction, now in its 4th edition. In addition to several regular contributions in this field, he was commissioned by the Swiss lawyers’ association to submit in 2008 a national report summarizing the evolution of planning law and its future prospects. A member of various standing committees in the field of urban and regional planning, he is captivated by the problems of architecture, planning, urban development, or renovation of built heritage. With wide ranging experience of procedures, either as a teacher and lawyer, he regularly represents clients before various courts and acts as representative party or arbitrator in the arbitration courts. Mr. Benoît Bovay is FSA specialist in construction law and real estate. He participated in organizing the course for Swiss lawyers specializing in this field.
